CMB FC 3 vs Coppull United 1 – Saturday 21st August 2021

West Lancashire Premier Division

Coppull United FC travelled to CMB without 14 players available selection due to birthday celebrations, injuries, stag dos and suspensions. The fact that we were able to field a team was something of an achievement and those involved stepping up from the reserves gave a good account of themselves.

Coppull started with Joe Leather in goal, a back 4 of Dylan Bennett, Conor Whitaker, Sam Bolton and Bruno Quintao. In midfield it was Nat Lindley and Nathan Bobby joined by Martin Kershaw, with Aaron Entwistle and Jimmy McIver both supporting Jordan Wilson up front. The substitutes bench included Lewis Foster and Paul Catterall.

The first half was short on both quality of football and chances created as both sides seemed to cancel each other out. CMB saw most of the ball however created very little with Joe Leather a bystander for the whole first half. Coppull had a header from Sam Bolton cleared off the line from a Entwistle corner on 24 minutes and that was the best chance of the first half. That was until Coppull took the lead with a goal created and finished by Aaron Entwistle o n the left wing who evaded two tackles slaloming his way through the CMB defence before finishing into the roof of the net. Half time and Coppull led 1-0.

The second half began and CMB came out the blocks with a new sense of purpose and renewed vigour. They moved the ball around much quicker and upped their performance level and the Coppull side struggled to contain their hosts. CMB equalised with a goal from 25 yards when a central midfielder found the top right hand corner of the goal - a great finish! Quickly after this they doubled their lead when great work on the right hand side when their right winger beat Quintao and Entwistle and delivered an inch perfect cross which was converted at the front post past Leather in the Coppull goal. The onslaught continued and it was again down the right hand side were CMB were having a lot of joy. The right winger once again evaded a couple of challenges and delivered yet another great ball which was converted at the far post with a bullet header and that gave CMB a 3-1 lead. Coppull brought on Foster and Catterall to shake up the team and could have reduced the arrears when Wilson found McIver on the right and he took an excellent first touch but failed to hit the target when well placed.

Full time and CMB were worthy winners albeit against an under strength Coppull side. On to Tuesday night and what already looks like an early 6 pointer against a Southport Hesketh side who have an identical record to ourselves.
